Hailing from Brisbane and the Gold Coast of Queensland, Gladiolus is a progressive metal band taking their ambitious first steps into the Australian prog scene.

Gladiolus was born in the bedroom of Dan Hendrex with a Focusrite interface and a Fractal Audio AX8 in 2016. Over the next two years, Dan scoured Brisbane and the Gold Coast for the musicians able to do his vision justice, whilst slowly piecing together the bones of a cohesive piece of art. The result was the addition of Anson Nesci, Joe Shirley and Zak Muller. The three brought their own influences to the table and helped to further hone the already focused sound of their yet-to-be-released debut record.

Mid-July 2022 will see the release of their debut single Chrysalis, which is an explosive first taste of what's to come from the Brisbane-based prog metal outfit. The song combines expansive ambient soundscapes with crushing riffs, lulling the listener into a trance at one moment and sonically assaulting them the next.

“This material is something we’ve been toiling away at for half a decade now. While it’s been a little slow going and we’ve had quite a few obstacles to overcome, it feels good to say that we can finally see everything coming together and adopting its true shape. I think that Chrysalis is a great representation of the emotions we’re feeling right now. The theme of the track really matches up - finally being able to see the form that our art is taking, and what we always wanted it to become being within grasping distance. I’m looking forward to what’s next for us! ” – Dan Hendrex, guitarist/vocalist and co-producer.

While ambitious, their ‘go big or go home’ attitude is what’s propelling Gladiolus forward in their efforts to get their art across to a wider audience.
